Graeme Hall and Stratford Hill to stand in Saudi Arabia

November 11

GRAEME Hall, sire of this year’s Indiana Derby (G2) winner East Hall, and Grade 3 winner Stratford Hill have been sold through Schumer Bloodstock to continue their stud careers in Saudi Arabia. Both stallions formerly stood at Winding Oaks Farm in Florida.

From nine crops of racing age, Graeme Hall is the sire of 22 black-type winners. In addition to East Hall, who won Saturday’s Millions Classic Preview Stakes at Gulfstream Park West, the son of Dehere has also been represented by Duke Of Mischief, winner of the Oaklawn Handicap (G2), Designer Legs, successful in the 2013 Adirondack Stakes (G2), and Grade 3 winners Graeme Six, Hurricane Ike, Joes Blazing Aaron, Tamarind Hall and Who’s Up.

"He suits the program there," Chad Schumer told the DRF. "He's an early sire and his foals tend to go anywhere from six furlongs to ten furlongs, which is most of their racing program. It's all dirt racing, no turf, so we thought he fit.

"We thought he was good value. He's an older horse but he looks absolutely fantastic for his age. He's the picture of health and we're really happy to have him. We're still shopping, an maybe we'll pick up a few more."

A Graded stakes performer from ages two to five, Graeme Hall won seven of 22 starts and $1,147,441 in earnings for Eugene and Laura Melnyk. His victories included the 2000 renewals of the Arkansas Derby (G2), Jim Dandy Stakes (G2) and Eclipse Handicap (G2) while he also ran second in the 2001 Cigar Mile Handicap (G1).

Graeme Hall is out of Grade 3 winner Win Crafty Lady, a Crafty Prospector half-sister to Grade 2 winner and sire Diligence. He is a half-brother to eight winners including Ballerina Handicap (G1) heroine Harmony Lodge and Grade 3 winner Win McCool.

Joining Graeme Hall in Saudi Arabia is his close relation Stratford Hill, winner of 2011 Shakertown Stakes (G3) at Keeneland. The son of A.P. Indy is out of Grade 1 winner Harmony Lodge, a half-sister to Graeme Hall.

Stratford Hill retired to stand at Winding Oaks Farm in Florida in 2013 and his first foals were born this year.
